What's Your Baby Trying To Tell You?
What's Your Baby Trying To Tell You?

By observing your baby's play, even in the first year, you will get a sense of the types of toys that she likes. You might want to consider writing down some of both the interests and disinterest. It's very disheartening to bring home a toy that your baby touches once and forever after ignores. You can share your baby's toy interest with family and friends to help with gift ideas. Some questions to help you think about your baby's preferences include:
  • What is your baby's favorite toy, the thing he turns to again and again?...
    Stuffed animal/"Lovie"?
    Book?
    Rattle toy?
    Musical toy?
    Mirror toy?
    Video/DVD?
  • Do her top three favorites have anything in common?... (i.e. colors, sounds, textures)
  • What toys hold your baby's interest best when in the car?... in the stroller?...
  • What toys best help him relax when tired or upset?
  • What toys does she gravitate to at friends' homes?
  • Does your baby study one object for a long period of time, or does he jump between activities?

Once you've considered your needs, and your baby's preferences, you will have a much smaller universe of toys to consider, and the greatest chance of adding another beloved favorite to baby's toy chest.

Newborns can see from birth, just not as clearly as an older child or adult. Until your child is about six months of age, he will respond best to bold, contrasting colors and graphics. That’s why it’s important to provide your baby with toys that feature the visual extremes of black, white and red. High-contrast colors will captivate and hold baby’s attention, encouraging visual development as well as physical activity – like wiggling, kicking, and arm waving.
Regrettably, there has been a major move in the infant toy industry away from production of black, white and red toys. They have elected to chose bright modern colors. Thus,
    Genius Baby Toys
has gone into production to fill the need. The highest contrast black, white and red remains the best visual option for infants.
