Crib Mirror- Oppenheim Gold Award Winner! - EarlYears- Now / New Updated Graphics! This safe crib mirror provides excellent educational and play opportunities for little ones. The large, distortion-free mirror on the front is child-safe and helps baby develop a sense of self. RE: Infant-Stim pattern on reverse side: Turn the large mirror over and see the visually stimulating black and white graphic scene. These black and white images have high contrast so that even newborns can see them; patterns progress from simple to complex. Large ribbons on top of the mirror make it easy to attach to any crib. Provides visual stimulation and encourages baby's powers of observation. The distortion-free mirror on one side will capture the reflection of your baby and her environment. The other side has visually stimulating black and white patterns and pictures, their high-contrast graphics especially designed to stimulate newborn's vision. Playing with Crib Mirror In the earliest weeks and months of life, your baby's vision will be stimulated by high-contrast black and white images. Hang the black and white side of Crib Mirror on the side of the crib and place your baby close enough to see it and to reach out and touch it. But even tiny babies enjoy colors, too, so alternate the two sides of the toy, giving your baby a chance to enjoy the bright colors and cheery pictures that serve as a frame to the mirrored side. He'll love to gaze at the mirror, looking at reflections of himself and the things in his environment. Remember, when your baby is able to pull to a standing position, remove Crib Mirror or any other large toys that could serve as steps for climbing out of the crib. Other ways to play with Crib Mirror • Photocopy the individual black and white images. Mount each on a piece of manila folder for stiffness. Show them to your baby one by one. Even a baby a few weeks old will have "favorites"! (from 4 weeks) •With your baby on her back, slowly move one of the "cards" you made across the baby's line of vision. Give her a chance to locate the card, focus on it, and track it as it moves. This will take lots of skill. Try the same thing with your baby on her tummy, giving her the opportunity to lift her head and follow the interestingly patterned card. (from 6 weeks) •With your baby sitting on the floor, put the mirror in front of him, flat on the floor. Place brightly colored objects onto the mirror. Their reflection is not only a visual spectacle, but adds another dimension to look at and grab for. (from six months) •Lay on the floor with your baby, the mirror in front of both of you. Show your baby Elle E. Elephant and Earl E. Bird. Point out their eyes. Look in the mirror with your baby, and point to your baby's eyes. Point to your eyes in the mirror. Use lots of language as you play. Notice that your baby is smiling at herself in the mirror. This is a landmark! (from six months) •Firmly secure the ribbons together and use them as hanging hooks for the mirror. Mount it on the wall, with the middle of the mirror about 27" from the floor. Your growing child will enjoy having a mirror at his own height! By 15 to 18 months your baby will recognize himself in the mirror. (from 12 months) Makes a wonderful baby shower or welcome new baby gift! Age Appropriate and safe: birth and up.
